We have only just met since the year began 31 days ago so a happy new year to you and yours. I had a busy holiday as usual, a lot of family meetups, hangouts, travels and planning for 2019.
My family (before marriage) usually has an AGM, annual general meeting- were we reflect on the past year, discuss individual plans, aspirations and collective plans as well. AGM has become a culture so this time we had 3 separate AGMs, my Family (before marriage), my family (husband and I) and my FAMILY (parent, children, spouses and grandchild), it was fun, it was intense, it was emotional and everything else in between.
I don’t make resolutions, I rather have SMART goals and a plan on how to achieve them, however one of the things I promised myself this year was to read more… for as long as I can remember my father has always hammered the importance of reading; 'readers are leaders', he would say. In fact I remember an article he had sent to me years ago titled ‘If you want to hide anything from a black man, put it in a book’. So this year I plan to read at least 1 book per month and do a summary here on the blog, that makes me accountable to you and that also means my next post will be about my January read, although however, I unfortunately forgot my actual January read on my traumatic flight from Abu Dhabi to Lagos, my December read will suffice for the purpose of the monthly summary.
Speaking about the treacherous five hour turbulence experience, I have been on lots of flights but I’ve never been on a flight that experienced such, it was so bad that the flight attendants could not serve any meals rather they were sharing vomit bags. I was seated next to my husband, we held hands and stared at each other for long periods of time, like what the heck is going on here. Sincerely after the first two hours I stopped praying and speaking in tongues and just resolved that I cannot die on this flight no matter what happens. At some point I started watching a movie, finished it and started another one, but the turbulence was so annoying I just decided to switch to the fight map and watch as we crossed the Sahara and so on. Thankfully we landed safely as I had expected anyway and of course we all couldn’t wait to get off.
One of the highlights of my holiday was my trip to Ghana for my friends’ wedding, I couldn’t miss it for anything. So, 2014/2015 three ladies lived and worked together in Jacksonville Florida, I like to say we were all single pringles, fast forward July 2018- I got married, Dec 2018- Hilina got married and Jan 2019- Maame got married. It was really exciting to see them all again after about 3 years as I had moved from Florida late 2015.
Also very exciting was seeing my church family from Florida, I truly believe that God orders the steps of the righteous and he did order my steps to By Faith Christian Ministries. After moving to Florida from California, the apartment complex that I lived at was next this church which I was grateful for, I had a church I could walk to since I didn’t own a car at the time. Soon enough I attended the church and the first thing that caught my eye was the Nigerian Flag in the church, it was clearly an African American church so why in the world would there be 3 flags, an American Flag (for obvious reasons), a Nigerian Flag and Flag of United Kingdom, I soon found out that the Pastor had visited those countries in her ministerial journey, it was so good to know she had been in Nigerian twice, she showed me pictures and everything. We became very close and have stayed the same although distance has definitely interfered, might I add that I sang in the choir alongside other beautiful singers.
Pastor Brannon was in Ghana with her beautiful family and she joined Maame and Isaac, it was such a joy to see them all and I’ll cherish those moments forever.
As for our blog; because we are in this together, there’s more fun stuff to come.
Thank you for kicking it with me all through 2018, lets make 2019 great!
I love you for sharing!
Happy 2019!
Peace!
