If you have never had dandruff, you are 1 of the lucky 55% of human population that isn’t currently dealing with it. Dandruff is a scalp disorder that requires some form of treatment to gain relief.
Do not confuse dry scalp, skin shedding or product build up on scalp with dandruff.
Dandruff's are first of all annoying and then embarrassing because when you comb your hair or even scratch your scalp you will see the white ugly flakes falling off unto your clothes, they are sometimes large but definitely dry and itchy.
I have had to deal with this in the past but I sincerely forget what remedy made it go away. At the time I was doing a lot of different things and it could have been any of the many products I used that got rid of it after about three to four months.
The exact cause of dandruff is not known, a number of factors could contribute to this scalp disorder. Hair products with harsh chemicals, bad hair care methods, some reaction to medications or a common fungus called malassezia. Whatever the reason, I have a solution that worked for me.
Most recently I suddenly noticed that when I scratched my scalp, that annoying flake would fall off, I ignored it initially until the embarrassment of people telling me, “what’s all this white stuff on your clothes?” at the slightest scratch, then I knew I had to attack.
I did a little research online and I found a convenient solution, it was convenient because I had what I needed right on my dresser-NEEM OIL! If you know the famous ‘dogonyaro’ tree, the leaves are processed and the oil extracted, there you have Neem oil. I know people also boil the leaves and drink the water for its medicinal benefits, I believe I've also heard of the same boiled neem water used to bath to clear off skin issues.
Neem Oil is good for a plethora of skin issues, I apply it as a spot treatment on red painful acne and by the next morning, the pain reduces and they start to dry up.
So here is what I did, I put the neem oil in a spray bottle and applied it liberally on my scalp then I massaged my scalp with my fingers for about a minute, styled my hair and went to work. BIG NO NO!, Please don’t do that, neem has a smell, it’s not a bad smell but it’s quiet conk, I’d say it smells like garlic. I’m sure you can imagine everyone at work was holding their breath when I passed by, I didn’t think the smell would be that disturbing but it was, subsequently I apply it on Friday night before bed and washed my hair on Saturday.
I only did this two times, two Fridays in a row and that has been the end of the embarrassing dandruff. I intend to do this treatment one last time, because three is a charm*** and I guess that would end this episode of Lola with the flakes…lol
